Match Report: U13 Black

Under sunny Inner West skies, the very strong and accomplished Collaroy Rugby Club team arrived at LN2 to take on the U13 Wolves.

As the Cougars were made up of some very big and fast forwards, and their back line was extremely proficient in moving the ball, the Wolves certainly had their work cut out for them. As we warmed in to the game, our rucking and pod work was not pretty, but it was much better than last week. A lack of position discipline, and some less than effective tackling of the Cougar’s big and fast players, meant that the boys went into the break down 12 to 5.

The second half was a different story. Wolves were tighter, more focussed and tackled with real intent. As the final whistle approached, the game was locked up at 17 points a piece.

A penalty to our boys was awarded in the final minute, and Jacob Fitzgerald lined up for the biggest kick of his career. He struck strong and true, and the ball sailed over the black dot. Full time was called, and the Wolves took the chocolates 20 points to 17

Many thanks to the very strong Collaroy Cougars who made the long trek from the Northern Beaches. They challenged us in every part of the game, and were amazingly gracious post final whistle by giving our boys a send off tunnel. It was greatly appreciated, and we wish them the very best for the remainder of the season. 🙏

Also many thanks to the team of volunteers who ran the canteen, BBQ and completed the pack up of the field after the game.

(Thanks to Dave S for a thrilling match report – as always)
