Another week, another tough opponent turning up to test the mettle of the mighty Reds. This week it was in the form of the Harbord Blues, a well drilled and big outfit with big boppa forwards and fast slick backs.
The game on a wet and sticky track started at a furious pace and the Blues turned up the heat early with total domination and slick cleaning out at the breakdown, this resulted in a great try and the Reds were behind early.
However, as is the case the Reds somehow managed to put some good phases together and levelled the score and stepped up a gear and went ahead. The first half was a seesawing affair and half time saw the score at 4 tries apiece.
There was a bit of consternation at half time as the mighty Reds looked a bit out of sorts and with little bit of soul searching and some big words of encouragement from James Hurt (standing in for super coach Rod Carmont) and Cel Green the boys came out all guns blazing and blew the the opposition off the park in the second half as the new breakdown drills started to take affect and the mobile Red forwards started to dominate the break down in an altogether enthralling game.
Special mention goes to James Carmont for a great all round effort followed by a crowd pleasing half length of the field try backed up by Baxter Hurt’s strong defence and good hands and the hard straight running of Josh De Beer.
Also good to see the try scoring effort being shared around, like Lochies try off Dan’s pass, which again shows that the boys are passing well and backing each other up.
Well done boys, as we get the breakdown more consistent and you guys will be hard to stop.
